child at heart

Child Protect – pretty much the best place on earth as far as I can tell. It is a place that works in harmony with DHR and Law Enforcement on cases of physical and sexual abuse in children 17 years old and younger. I am doing 50 hours of volunteer work for my practicum this semester there. I watched 2 forensic interviews on DVD today. A 6 year old girl who was abused by her 12 year old babysitter and a 13 year old girl who was abused by her 28 year old band director in 2007. By the way, he plead guilty yesterday morning and can spend up to 20 years in prison – situation resolved… but it hurts my heart that kids so young have to deal with these issues, but I am beyond grateful that this place exists for these children. By doing my practicum here the Lord has really put on my heart that kids are where I should be in my life! I pray this opportunity will change me for the better and the Lord will continue to reveal many things to me.

I must stop writing now because thinking of those kids get to me. I wanted to cry when the 6 year old said what had happened to her, you could hear the pain in her words and see her who demeanor change when she started talking about it. I must hope in these words: “Revenge is mine says the Lord.” Praise God for the little miracles of life he puts on this earth each day.
